A comprehensive treatment of the practice of spiritual direction and pastoral counseling within the Catholic tradition. This course emphasizes development of the practical skills necessary to spiritually accompany those encountered in Catholic ministry.

THE 308 / THE 561 Catholic Social Teachings - Fall 2026

This course reflects on the Church’s social teaching from Scripture, the tradition, and especially from Pope Leo XIII’s Rerum Novarum to the Second Vatican Council. By engaging primary source documents, the course further reflects on the Church’s continued growth in its social awareness and activities. Classes may be taught in an in-class, hybrid, or online format and have set times that require virtual participation.
