Programs

Master of Arts in Catholic Theology

The Master of Arts in Catholic Theology is offered to students who have received an undergraduate degree and have a desire to expand their knowledge and understanding of Catholic Theology. The MACT program consists of a total of 36 credit hours offered through the University of Holy Cross. Courses are taught locally by Acadiana priests, deacons, and theologians. The degree obtained will be from the University of Holy Cross.

Bachelor of Arts in Theology

The Bachelor of Arts program is for undergraduate students who have or are obtaining 54 credit hours of General Core Curriculum from another institution and would like to major in theology. Just like our MACT Program, the BA Theology program is offered in conjunction with our partnership through UHC.

Permanent Diaconate

Aquinas Lafayette provides the intellectual formation for candidates in the Permanent Diaconate program in the Diocese of Lafayette. Courses are provided over a five-year formation period in partnership with the Diocese of Lafayette for theological and ministerial formation.

Intellectual Formation

Those in formation to become deacons and have previously earned their BA also have the option to obtain a Master of Arts in Theological Studies. The curriculum does not change, but the workload and participation will be intensified.

Audit

If you would like to take a course for personal or professional development without the pressure of grades or formal evaluation, consider auditing one of our courses. You may attend classes in person or listen to the lectures online, complete the assigned readings, and have limited participation in discussions without the pressure of submitting any work, taking any exams, or receiving any grades!

Catechetical Credit

By his apostolic letter, Antiquum Ministerium, the late Holy Father, Pope Francis, established the Ministry of Catechist as a formal ministry in the Catholic Church.

In collaboration with the Office of Catechesis for the Diocese of Lafayette and with Most Rev. Douglas Deshotel’s approval, Aquinas Lafayette will offer courses for Catechetical credit ordered toward preparing individuals to be instituted in the Ministry of Catechist. This is not a requirement for those of you wishing to teach CCD in your Church Parish, but going through the program will enable you to teach the children and youth of our diocese the Truths of the Catholic Church with confidence and guide them toward seeking a more in-depth understanding of our beautiful Catholic Faith.

Credit for a Single Course

We offer the option of receiving credit for a single course, to be included on your transcript, for any UHC course offered through Aquinas Lafayette without the need to enroll in any of the other educational programs.
